I've always loved to cook. My mom brought me into the kitchen at an early age. Where we lived at the time was nothing like today's homes. We had to go a 1/2 mile up the dirt road to pump our water and heat it on a two burner hotplate! lol Makes one really appreciate today's appliances and gadgets. The one applicance I will not do without is called a 'seal-a-meal'. It is a gadget that has special plastic bags you can seal. These are durable heavy freezer type bags and when I cook a batch of something it all gets put in meal size servings in a bag and popped in the freezer for future use. Come one of those really lazy days, I just take one out of the freezer, pop it in a pot of boiling water (yes they are boilable) and in minutes I have a good meal and no pots to clean! Added bonus. :-)
I learned to cook by sight mostly, not by following a recipe directly and later started experimenting myself with trying my own things. Nothing elaborate or fancy as I was brought up on a 'meat & potatoes' type of cuisine. lol But good food, comfort food and good for you food. Fresh ingredients and homestyle cooking for the most part. I start cooking for the holidays way in advance so you will find a lot of my own recipes are freezable including all the goodies. I am also the 'quantity' type cook for lazy days or hectic ones so you may have to play with some of my own recipes to cut them down in size a bit unless you do this also.
My mom also had every Thursday for 'baking' day and made the most wonderful sweets. My father was a baker by profession and taught her how to cook and bake. She taught me how to cook and his baking talent just seemed to be in me. I love to bake as well.
In this section you will find a lot of my recipes and some I have found other places that worked well and made a great meal or two around here. If you have one you would like to post please just email it to me and I will. Please be sure you don't miss any ingredients, don't type everything in caps, list the ingredients like you see here and watch those typos!! lol Preferably I would like to just copy and paste the recipes in. :-)
Well, here we go... hope you enjoy some of these....
